Holiday travel is a common way for bed bugs to get into a home. They do not live on people. They hide in luggage, clothing and bags, and ride home with you without being noticed. A few habits can lower the chance of bringing them back.
Before unpacking, keep your bags off the bed and floor. Put them in the bathroom or on a luggage rack. Then take a few minutes to look at:
You are looking for live bugs, small dark specks, or rust-colored spots. If you find signs, ask for a different room, and not one next door.
Use a luggage rack if there is one, and keep it away from the wall and the bed. Do not put clothes in the hotel drawers if you can avoid it.
Bites alone are not a reliable sign, because bites can look like many other things. Look for rust-colored spots on sheets, small dark specks along mattress seams, and live bugs or shed skins in bedding and furniture.
Try not to move things from room to room. A professional inspection can confirm what you have and where it is. Sunshine Pest Control has been family owned since 1998, and we treat bed bugs for homes across Miami and South Florida. Call us at (305) 640-9640 for a free quote.
